What is it?
skills2achieve is an online planning and assessment tool for physical education. The programme allows schools to track and monitor progress across the whole child through physical, healthy, thinking and social themes. It’s simple ‘whole class’ entry and compatibility with multiple devices allows schools to record, measure and report on PE and physical activity efficiently and effectively.
How does it work?
Pupils are measured against a number of ‘I can’ statements linked to the national curriculum and offer cross curricular themes throughout. Individual log books allows for self and peer assessment, and log ins for parents gives the opportunity to record extracurricular activity. The online tracking tool has a variety of reporting functionality including progress of individuals, classes and the whole school. It can help to evidence progress over time, and compare development of different groups such as gender, ethnic minorities and pupils with SEND.
How will it help my school?
skills2achieve supports whole school development and can help to evidence the impact of interventions such as Pupil and Primary PE and Sport Premium to Ofsted. The programme supports Oftsed judgements around Health and Wellbeing and meets the Chief Medical Officer’s recommendations for activity levels in young people. Elements of skills2achieve have been designed to promote SMSC development, British Citizenship and explore character education of young people.

For a while now I have looked at many tools to help with assessment of PE. As a school, we have used national curriculum levels and Focus' learning challenges. These have been useful as summative assessments of PE performance. skills2achieve is so much more. It comprehensively maps out the physical literacy journey of children as they grow through the primary ages. It is effectively a MTP for PE in primary schools. This helps teachers use assessment for learning more effectively and enables children to make small steps to real progressions in every lesson. Its four thematic approaches enable teachers to focus on a particular class cohort needs (children who fall out a lot in PE lessons can have a heavier focus on the social side of PE).” Jude Scrutton, PE Co-ordinator at Irlam Endowed Primary School in Salford
